This spring cleaning checklist will help you address some typical problems early on and keep your appliances and plumbing system in good condition and help extend its life.

  • Dishwashers – hoses leading to the dishwasher can become weak or worn. This can be a major problem with plastic hoses. These hoses can crack and leak. They tend to last for about a decade, but should be checked at least yearly.
  • Drains. Stoppages in the drain can lead to slow-running water and stopped up drains. Preventive maintenance should include installing drain stoppers at each drain, and having Citrus Plumbing of Venice inspect the plumbing pipes will ensure no blockages are forming.
  • Toilets. Leaky toilets are problematic, in particular because they can leak for a long time without you knowing about it. You can add a couple drops of food coloring into the tank and wait for about 30 minutes. If the water in the toilet bowl doesn’t run clear, the toilet is leaking. Give us a call and we can help to diagnose where the leak is coming from and expertly resolve the problem.
  • Washing machine – Any weak or worn hoses should be replaced. Worn hoses can burst, leading to flooding and water damage in the home.
  • Water heater – At least yearly, an expert should drain the water heater tank. This a very important maintenance task that keeps it in good condition. When you flush the tank it helps prevent corrosion and internal rusting. In normal operation sediment will build up in the tank.
